Freediving by Terry Maas, BlueWater Freedivers

Soft, smooth, quiet, confident, serene, peaceful: all these adjectives hint at the intense pleasure well-trained freedivers feel. Imagine coasting below the waves, playing "drop the leaf" with wild dolphins, flying in formation with giant manta rays or simply joining a school of fish. Without a mechanical breathing apparatus, you’re truly free—free to flow effortlessly into the womb-like, enveloping water, free to join the ocean not as a interloper but as a welcome friend. A simple definition of freediving is an inch and a breath—an inch underwater on a breath of air. Snorkelers qualify but there is one more important element separating freedivers from snorkelers. It’s the feeling of true ease and relaxation under the water. You live in the moment, so absorbed that an hour spent freediving erases a week’s worries. Humans share special diving adaptations with marine mammals. The mo...

BIKINI ATOLL en memoirs'

Dear All, The Kili/Bikini/Ejit Local Government Council met for several days during August, 2008, to consider its fiscal year 2009 budget. It was decided at this meeting that Bikini Atoll would remain closed for normal tourism operations during 2009. The Council made this decision due to the ongoing reliability issues with our local airline, Air Marshall Islands, the rise in the world price of fuel, and the decline in the stock market and the impact that this has had on our trust funds (which were used to subsidise our dive program): Together, all of these issues have caused our operating expenses to rise beyond our means. Currently, the Council is engaged in negotiations with several entities which are interested in taking over the Bikini tourism operation. It is unknown how long these negotiations will last, or if they will prove fruitful, but, if there is an update regarding the tourism operation, it will be posted on this website. Bikini is allowing certain types of vessels to ...

The death toll from a massive South Pacific earthquake and tsunami has risen to at least 36 and is expected to rise significantly, officials said. There were 22 confirmed dead in American Samoa and 14 in Samoa with unconfirmed reports of scores more missing feared dead following the 8.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami. "We have 22 confirmed dead and it could go much higher," Michael Sala, Homeland Security director in American Samoa, told AFP."It could take a week or so before we know the full extent."The eastern part of American Samoa was without power and water supplies after the devastating earthquake, which struck at 6:48 am (1748 GMT). Sala said it was the wall of water, which he estimated at 25-feet (7.5 metres) high, which did most of the damage as it swept ashore about 20 minutes after the earthquake, demolishing buildings in coastal areas. Red Cross officials in Samoa put the initial death toll at 14 but said it would probably rise as communicat...

SSI returning from Palo Alto Cali - 25 May 2009

best friends will always be the best of friends thru hard times and good times well done Tuanku!!! DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who was in the United States for heart surgery, returned home to Malaysia to a warm welcome. The private jet touched down at 3.40pm and he walked out with minimal help to greet family members, Raja Muda Perak, DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and 250 others at KLIA’s Bunga Raya VIP complex. Dressed in a brown moleskin jacket over a denim shirt, black trousers and sneakers, the Sultan had some tea before going home. His personal physician Datuk Dr Anuar Masduki said the heart surgery on May 2 involved three procedures over nine hours and went smoothly with the Sultan making satisfactory recovery. Followup treatment would be done at Sime Darby SJMC, he said. Welcome home Tuanku!!!!
