Royalty carry a torch for Olympian determination...

"If you run alone you run fast, "If you run with others "You run far." THE Olympic Games set world standards for individual athletes. But the above quotation also explains its penchant for the relay, as we just witnessed in Malaysia when Tunku "Pete" Imran lit the traditional flame and carried the torch on the first leg of the run in the country. This was not only a heart-warming spectacle. It was a great privilege for Malaysia. The Olympic Games were probably the greatest legacy from the early classical civilisation. The first Olympiad was held in Greece in 771 BC. The games were held at four-year intervals up to the 293rd edition in AD 392. It was one of four sacred festivals in honour of the Greek god Zeus and the Roman god Jove. The Olympics were revived in 1896. Beijing is to have the honour of hosting the 29th edition in August. The flame symbolises the handing on of this great tradition from generation to generation, and country to country. We stage

AMAZING BLUE HOLES for FREEDIVING & SCUBA DIVING

Great Blue Hole, Belize First discovered by Jacques Cousteau, one of the world’s most famous divers and marine conservationists, the Great Blue Hole in Belize is the best of the bunch, and every diver’s dream. Measuring 305m (1,000 ft) across and 123 m (400 ft) deep, the Blue Hole is almost perfectly circular and can be found in Lighthouse Reef Atoll, about 60 miles from Belize City. The Great Blue Hole in Belize is a Mecca for those wanting to dive among its giant stalactites and stalagmites that were formed during the last Ice Age. Starting at around 30-33 meters, the limestone formations become more intricate with depth, but few get to see what they look like as most divers are only qualified to go to a depth of around 30 meters, although, when it comes to diving in blue holes, many flout the rules. ============================================================== The Blue Hole, Dahab Until only about 25 years ago, Dahab was a tiny Bedouin fishing village on the Sinai coast, about 50 m

Management of Diving Injuries

Diving Injuries and Illnesses Due to the pressure changes and the aquatic environment, diving may cause diseases which are unique and different than non-divers. Examples of these: Decompression Sickness Arterial Gas Embolism Barotrauma Dysbaric Osteonecrosis Nitrogen Narcosis Oxygen Toxicity Hypoxia, Carbon Dioxide Toxicity and Breathing Gas Contamination Drowning Stings, Bites and Poisoning from Dangerous Marine Animal Decompression Illness During a dive, nitrogen from the compressed air that the diver breathes is dissolved into the blood and body tissues in accordance to Henry’s law. When the diver returns to the surface, nitrogen may come out of solution in the form of bubbles, due to the high gradient between the partial pressures of the nitrogen in the tissues and the environment. The manifestations of DCS depend on the organs or tissues affected by bubble formation. The commonest presentations of DCS are generalized symptoms of weakness, tiredness, apathy and malaise. Freediving by Terry Maas, BlueWater Freedivers

Soft, smooth, quiet, confident, serene, peaceful: all these adjectives hint at the intense pleasure well-trained freedivers feel. Imagine coasting below the waves, playing "drop the leaf" with wild dolphins, flying in formation with giant manta rays or simply joining a school of fish. Without a mechanical breathing apparatus, you’re truly free—free to flow effortlessly into the womb-like, enveloping water, free to join the ocean not as a interloper but as a welcome friend. A simple definition of freediving is an inch and a breath—an inch underwater on a breath of air. Snorkelers qualify but there is one more important element separating freedivers from snorkelers. It’s the feeling of true ease and relaxation under the water. You live in the moment, so absorbed that an hour spent freediving erases a week’s worries. Humans share special diving adaptations with marine mammals. The mo

BIKINI ATOLL en memoirs'

Dear All, The Kili/Bikini/Ejit Local Government Council met for several days during August, 2008, to consider its fiscal year 2009 budget. It was decided at this meeting that Bikini Atoll would remain closed for normal tourism operations during 2009. The Council made this decision due to the ongoing reliability issues with our local airline, Air Marshall Islands, the rise in the world price of fuel, and the decline in the stock market and the impact that this has had on our trust funds (which were used to subsidise our dive program): Together, all of these issues have caused our operating expenses to rise beyond our means. Currently, the Council is engaged in negotiations with several entities which are interested in taking over the Bikini tourism operation. It is unknown how long these negotiations will last, or if they will prove fruitful, but, if there is an update regarding the tourism operation, it will be posted on this website. Bikini is allowing certain types of vessels to
